Buddha Purnima 2021: Buddha Purnima marks the birth anniversary of Lord Buddha. Buddha was a spiritual teacher on whose teachings Buddhism was founded. As per the Vedic literature, Lord Buddha is an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, and he appeared on this earth to teach the message of non-violence and mercy towards all living creatures.

As per the Hindu calendar, Buddha Jayanti is celebrated in the month of Vaisakh on the full moon day (Purnima). As per the Gregorian calendar, it is celebrated sometime in April or May.

Buddha Purnima is also known as Vesak or Buddha Jayanti. However, the day is celebrated across the world with a lot of excitement.

 

Buddha Purnima 2021: Date

This year, the auspicious occasion will be celebrated on May 26, the 2583rd birth anniversary of Gautama Buddha.

 

However, the time of Gautama Buddha's birth and death is uncertain. As per historians, Prince Siddhrtha Gautama was born around 563 at Lumbini in modern-day Nepal.

Buddha Purnima 2021: Purnima Tithi

The Purnima Tithi begins at 20:29 on May 25, 2021, and ends at 16:43 on May 26, 2021.

On this day, devotees visit temples, offer prayer to Lord Buddha, and donate alms to the needy. Some devotees also observe a fast, meditate and read Holy Scripture.

The day is also celebrated to remember the time Buddha achieved nirvana (salvation) under the Mahabodhi tree at Bodh Gaya Bihar India.
